These types of strainers get their name from the shape of the body and can be installed horizontally or vertically, with the screen facing down. In applications where significant amounts of debris are expected, a purge valve can usually be fitted into the filter cap. In this way, using the steam pressure, the filter can be cleaned witho no need to stop the system.
